On any level unkown files being downloaded onto a computer is a bit of a cause for thought.

Maybe its not a huge threat but till the cause is found then theres always the possibility of third party antics.
It could well be corrupted files but it wouldn't they have conformed that it wasn't by now?

I have not had the odd 3mb download yet, but on another disturbing note
which i figured I would share with everyone,I have been infected multiple
times from Tribalfusion (a popup ad here on guru.)so far i got:

Trojan horse DNSChanger.alt
Trojan horse Downloader.purityscan.Y
Trojan horse Adload_R.h

and

Tribalfusion.Adwaregeneric3.CBH

Popups suck to begin with, but this is just B.S.! GWG unlink this ad please!

For those who have small 'updates' did you do a -image? or close GW while loading (in between maps)?
I believe that the game marks files as 'to download' and the first thing that happens on start up is to download all the files mark as such.

Never got any morning updates yet. Aren't all of Anet's updates in the afternoon timeframe?

I had a repeat of Sunday afternoon: started GW and it started dowloading a small file, stuck at 99% for about a minute, finished up and closed; reopened and did another small download (like under 20 seconds), closed; reopened like normal.

Nothing missing from my toons. No strange emails coming in.

Weird.

Depends of your time zone. ATM, I'm in GMT-4. When ANet says an event is gonna start at midnight Pacific (GMT-8), it means 4AM for me.
For someone in GMT-5, it means 3AM.
For someone in GMT+1, it means 9AM (if my calculations are right O_o).

So you get people getting their updates at different part of the day.

Then those weird updates that seem to happen regardless of the time.

Gosh,

I have gotten 2 of these updates now, 1 like 2 days ago. That was a very small update (2 updates) nothing changed, I could just continue to play the game. But like 20 mins ago I got another update of bit more then 3mb, 105 files. Couldn't login (059) after few mins I could, nothing changed to my account (so far).

This is strange. Still no word from Anet about the mystery update.
*Tries to figure out what that means, maybe some kind of surprise?*

wtf is up with the random updates? the update hangs at 99%. It occurs about 1 out of every 4 login attempts now.

Hopefully Anet will give us an answer, long awaited changes, server screwups or whatever very soon. Alot of the community is too freaked out to even log in right now. This thing happening right around the time of the gvg changes and ursan change really doesn't put them in a better light. -seriously thinking about not getting GW2-

We've done some checking into this issue, and apparently one of our European file servers was misconfigured. The team have found the flaw and corrected it. This bug would not have affected your account or characters in any way.

Thanks for the information Regina. There's just something I don't get though, but that might just be me who's too dumb to see a link: if the problem was on a Euro server, why did people in America, who connected to American servers, have the same problem/update/etc?

Thanks, Regina!

I'm in the U.S., but typically play in the ID's (less spam). Would that be why I was getting these "updates"?

Thanks for the info Regina, at least we know it wasn't a hacking attempt. Still wondering why american players would be affected then.

I'm told that it is technically possible for Americans to connect to European servers, so this bug may have affected a few Americans.

That makes sense, and thanks again for looking into this.

Can anyone confirm that it's working as it should? I'm on my laptop and can't access the game until I get back home tomorrow night.

Never realized that though. In general the server's IP I log on is an American server. That's in general as I don't check the server's IP everyday so I can't say I never log on Euro servers so to speak - I barely play on Euro districts (although I after reading this I'm not sure if it makes a difference) and I haven't set a foot in Europe since 2003.
